Mumbai Indians skipper Hardik Pandya became the first captain to take five-wicket haul in an Indian Premier League match during his team’s IPL 2025 clash against Lucknow Super Giants at the Ekana Cricket Stadium on Friday.
Hardik completed his first IPL fifer by having LSG’s Akash Deep caught in deep in the last over of the first innings.
The 31-year-old began his haul by dismissing LSG’s batting mainstay Nicholas Pooran. Hardik then added the wickets of Rishabh Pant, Aiden Markram and Miller before clinching his fifer.
The right-arm pacer ended with figures of five for 36 – this is also the second five-wicket haul of this season. His previous best bowling performance in an IPL game was three for 17 against Rajasthan Royals in 2022.
The previous best bowling figures by a captain in an IPL game was Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s Anil Kumble’s four for 16 against Deccan Chargers in 2009.
