The Gem and Jewellery Export Promotion Council has welcomed the new customs commissioner at the Precious Cargo Customs Clearance Centre and sought to advocate for the gem and jewellery industry. The traders’ body also recently highlighted its export initiatives at a Maharashtra summit.

The Precious Cargo Customs Clearance Centre has named Santosh Kumar Mishra as its new commissioner of customs, the GJEPC announced on its website. GJEPC chairman Kirit Bhansali met with the commissioner to outline challenges faced by gem and jewellery exporters and importers, urging continued customs support to streamline trade operations.
In response to Bhansali, Mishra reaffirmed the department’s commitment to enabling business ease, stating, “When you flourish, we flourish, and the country flourishes,” the GJEPC reported. Mishra also emphasised collaboration between customs and trade associations like the GJEPC.
Separately, the GJEPC participated in the District Investment Summit 2025, held in Mumbai on April 16 under the theme ‘Attracting Investment, Promoting Growth, Empowering Districts.’ Organised by the Directorate of Industries at the Government of Maharashtra, the summit aimed to boost district-level industrial development.
Mithilesh Pandey, director of membership at the GJEPC, showcased the council’s initiatives, including flagship trade shows like IIJS and IJEX, and export support measures such as courier mode and hand-carry facilitation, India Post’s Dak Niryat Kendra, and e-commerce tie-ups with platforms like Ebay. Pandey also highlighted subsidised logistics and benefits under trade agreements such as CEPA and ECTA. Additional programmes discussed included the IC Scheme, buyer-seller meets, capacity-building efforts, collateral-free loans under IJPM, and dedicated infrastructure for jewellery manufacturing.
