In its fourth round of fresher layoffs, IT major Infosys has reportedly let go of around 195 trainees, according to sources familiar with the matter. This brings the total number of fresher exits to over 800 out of the approximately 2,000 onboarded last year.

Sources also confirmed that among those laid off, approximately 250 underwent training through UpGrad and NIIT, while around 150 enrolled in the company’s outplacement support services.

In February, the company verified it had laid off around 350 trainees due to their inability to clear internal assessments. This was followed by the termination of approximately 45 more trainees in March, and around 240 additional exits about two weeks ago.

Following the third round, the IT labour union Nascent Information Technology Employees Senate (NITES) submitted a second complaint with the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship against the “illegal and unethical layoffs.” The earlier complaint submitted in October 2024 is currently under active investigation by the Director of the Board of Practical Training (Eastern Region). Affected trainees had submitted documents, and an inquiry is still pending, the organisation informed.

Infosys did not reply to businessline’s mail seeking comments by the time of going to press.

Aditya Narayan Mishra – MD and CEO of CIEL HR, shared, “The layoffs over the last few months highlight the growing pressure on IT companies to adapt to a challenging macroeconomic environment, such as the US tariff changes and the decision-making delays at their clients’ ends. With the uncertainties in the air, companies are becoming more selective, often reassessing new hires against stricter performance and deployment criteria. While such decisions may be necessary for short-term agility and cost control, they often create panic.”
