CSIR-NIIST, Thiruvananthapuram, to host conclave on IP monetisation and technology transfer

CSIR-National Institute for Interdisciplinary Science and Technology (CSIR-NIIST), Thiruvananthapuram, will organise a “Conclave on IP Monetisation and Technology Transfer” on May 14 at its campus here as part of its golden jubilee celebrations.

VK Saraswat, Member, NITI Aayog, will inaugurate the event at a function to be presided over by C Anandharamakrishnan, Director, CSIR-NIIST, an official spokesman said here. 

Protecting IP rights

The conclave aims to empower research organisations and industries to strategically protect intellectual property (IP), assess its commercial potential and translate IP assets and know-how into marketable products. Special emphasis will be laid on maximising revenue through effective technology licensing and IP monetisation strategies.

Anandharamakrishnan, Director, said conclave at CSIR-NIIST will seek to showcase its commitment to translating innovation into impact. “In today’s knowledge-driven economy, it is important that research does not remain confined to laboratories but reaches society through strategic partnerships, robust IP frameworks and commercialisation pathways,” he added. 

National experts attending 

According to spokesman, the event will also delve into emerging trends in IP monetisation, including creation of IP-based Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) companies, fund-raising through share sales and equity investment of IP in startups. Delegates will gain valuable insights into advanced IP valorisation models such as incubation, spin-offs and joint ventures.

The conclave will feature a premier line-up of experts in IP and technology transfer. Registrations can be made on the CSIR-NIIST website, or in person with RS Praveen Raj, Senior Principal Scientist and Convenor of the Conclave at +91 99956 32522. 

First session 

Among panelists at first session on IP Protection and Valorisation are PH Kurian, former Controller General of Patents, Designs and Trademarks; Manoj P Samuel, Executive Director, KSCSTE-CWRDM, Kozhikode; Gopakumar G Nair, Patent and Trademark Attorney, Mumbai; and Shikha Rastogi, Senior Principal Scientist, CSIR-IPU, New Delhi. 

Second session

The second session on Joint Ventures, Incubation and Spin-offs will feature Anoop Ambika, CEO, Kerala Startup Mission; Shweta Uttam, CEO, Atal Incubation, IIISET-Pune; KP Sudheer, Head, Agri-Business Incubator, Kerala Agricultural University, Vellanikara; Balram S, CEO, TIMed, SCTIMST, Thiruvananthapuram; and Preeti M, CEO, Technology Business Incubator, NIT-Kozhikode. 

Third session
