The outlook for the coriander crop in 2025-26 appears positive, especially in major producing States like Rajasthan, Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh, which account for the bulk of India’s coriander cultivation. This season, favourable climatic conditions — including timely rainfall and temperature patterns — have supported crop growth, contributing to better-than-average yields.
Key Highlights:
Yield Estimates
Crop yield is expected to be 12-15 per cent higher than the previous year. Consistent weather patterns during critical growth stages have helped in the development of healthy pods and improved seed quality.
Sowing area
While the sowing area has declined slightly compared to last year — due in part to crop diversification and farmer preference shifting toward more lucrative alternatives — the yield improvement is expected to compensate for the reduced acreage.
Price outlook
The improved yield may cap further price increases in the coriander market. Despite a drop in sowing area, the expected surplus due to better yield could result in range-bound or slightly bearish price trends in the short to medium term, especially during the peak arrival season.
Market dynamics
Stockists and traders: Many traders and stockists are adopting a wait-and-watch approach, anticipating arrivals and price movement post-harvest.
Demand side: Domestic demand remains steady, but exports could play a key role in absorbing excess supply. If international demand strengthens — particularly from Southeast Asia and Middle Eastern markets — it may lend some support to prices.
Quality: Early reports indicate good seed size, seed colour and aroma, which may help maintain demand for high-grade coriander even if overall prices remain under pressure.
Conclusion
While the reduction in sowing area raised initial concerns, the expected increase in yield has balanced the market outlook. Overall, the coriander market in 2025 is likely to remain well-supplied, keeping price volatility in check unless export spikes occur.
